Caution! Heavy Machinery

Downtown St. Peter doesn't look much like downtown St. Peter these days, thanks to the Economic Recovery Act and some heavy machinery.

We took a pleasant evening kayak around Lake Emily last night (about five miles from St. Peter) and then stopped downtown on our way home to catch some of the action. Since they want to keep the local businesses in business, the sidewalks are open and you can basically walk to within feet of the action. It was clearly the place to be last night because there were a lot of locals out with us! They estimate being done by Thanksgiving, so this will be our life for a few months.

Here's a more peaceful moment for you to enjoy, courtesy of Brian's eye for beautiful pictures...

So in the summertime road construction goes on even at the gates of St. Peter, huh?
