Paint fun

We spent another long day out at the cabin working on the yard and patio. We didn't actually plan on spending much of the day working at all, but the projects are just too tempting. I finished some landscaping around the house, putting down landscape fabric and covering it with river rocks. Brian borrowed our neighbor's skid loader and spread a layer of rock in our fire pit area (the old foundation) to make it level. Then he spread the rest of the rock on the driveway and brought up some nice black dirt to put around the patio pavers. Then we seeded and watered the new parts of the lawn. The neighbors also let Brian use their "brush hog", which is a very large, very heavy duty mower attached to a tractor. Brian was able to mow a lot of the weeds down with it. It was a hot and humid day, in the mid-90s. Needless to say, we are both a little tired and sunburned.

Tonight we went to a BBQ for the returning CFs (the Gustavus equivalent of RAs). Afterwords, a bunch of head resident families met up to paint "the Rock." Painting the Rock is a Gustavus tradition. Usually it gets painted several times in a week and sometimes even several times in a day. We thought we'd take an opportunity to paint it before the students all get back on campus. The kids had a blast learning how to spray paint. The only rule? No painting people!
