Maya and I spent five wonderful days visiting friends and family in the Seattle area. What a great weekend!
It was Maya's first time flying, but she was a champ! She dutifully followed along with the flight attendants during the safety presentation...
We had a three hour flight to Salt Lake City, a three hour layover, and then a two hour flight from there to Seattle. She barely slept at all on the flight, but she was in a pretty good mood the whole time. Both flights were full, so we had close quarters with her on my lap. During the first flight, there was a fairly large man in the middle seat. Maya kicked him a little bit while she nursed, but I didn't feel too bad about it because he took up half of my seat anyway. She got about an hour and a half of nap during our layover and then was just as good on the second flight. She made a lot of friends!
Anya picked us up from the airport and we spent the weekend at her beautiful new house in Issaquah. On Friday, we picked up Heidi and headed over to my old stomping grounds near the UW for lunch with Amy. Oh, the memories!
We started Saturday morning with a trip to a rummage sale in a ritzy suburb of Seattle. I was amazed at how many great things were there and how cheap they were...it's a good thing I didn't drive out (and that Brian wasn't with me)! Heidi got a couple of steals, which I'm sure you'll see at some point on her blog. I picked up a couple of large and X-large sleep sacks for Maya at 50 cents a pop.
Oh, and Maya showed us a new trick during lunch she picked up on her own...feeding herself!
Sunday, we met up with my Aunt Maxine for breakfast in Seattle (I highly recommend the Portage Bay Cafe, if you're in the area!). Maxine and Erik live most of the year in Bend, OR, but were in Seattle for cancer treatments at the Seattle Cancer Care Center. Maya and I got to stop by to visit as Uncle Erik got some fluids. It was good timing because they were headed back to Bend on Monday. So great to see them both!
Sunday ended with a Guac-off...a guacamole making competition between me and Anya's husband, JohnE. I lost by a single vote! I think this calls for a rematch! :)
The weather was absolutely gorgeous from Saturday on, and on Monday, we took a bit of time to walk to the park. Maya rode in the big swing for the first time and absolutely loved it! She couldn't stop smiling and giggling the whole time she was in there.
I didn't get any photos of all of us girls, but Heidi did. Here's one I stole from her blog...aren't we cute! You can see more here.
We caught a 3:00 flight back on Monday. This time, we were lucky enough to get an entire row to ourselves! Good thing, too, because Maya was a bit more cranky then she was on the way out. It was a great trip, but I think she was excited to get back to see daddy.
I was excited to see Brian, too. He met us at the airport with some wildflowers from the cabin and cold water for both of us...so thoughtful! It's good to be home!

Looks like a great trip! Natalie and Harvey were jealous that Maya was taking her first airplane trip already!

Thanks for braving the adventure!! :) Love you!
What a fun get away!
I love the picture of you with your friends! What a brave lady you are taking Maya on such a long flight. What a good baby Maya was on such a long flight. What a lonely daddy Brian was on such a long...trip! :)
