Busy

Sorry for the absence of posts!  We haven't been up to much that's exciting, but it has still felt busy around here.  Brian is finishing up his last day of another 10-day stretch at work.  I definitely miss his old schedule!  I have moved back into my regular office and finished up a few projects, including checking over the final proofs of a chapter I wrote for an edited book about women, religion, and the 2008 election (I know, it's a little dated already!).  I've also been wrapping things up on campus with lots of end-of-the-year gatherings.  Most of the students have moved out and graduation is on Sunday.  I won't be robing up as I do most years, but I am still planning on attending as a spectator.

Maya has just begun to figure out what she is capable of now that she is able to crawl.  She gets around pretty good and is quick to get into everything!  I spent a few days last week doing my best to childproof by moving the dangerous stuff up to higher shelves.  To do that, I had to pack up a bunch of other stuff, which I guess means that I have already started to pack for our move (we're hoping to move in the early part of July).

You wanted these shelves cleared, right Mom?

Maya is extremely curious and her favorite way of learning about new things is by putting them in her mouth.  There's nothing like a curious baby to make you realize how dirty your floors really are! Maya is also getting impatient with being restricted to the floor and spends a lot of time pulling herself into a standing position.  This means that anything we leave near the edge of the coffee table is at risk.  Both Brian and I are having to adjust to thinking more carefully about where we put things!  A few days ago, Brian came home from a run and took his shoes and socks off in the living room while he stretched.  I looked over a few minutes later just in time to see Maya put one of his sweaty socks into her mouth!  Gross!!!

First of all, ewwwww about the sock! But maybe she'll always be good about smiling for the camera since she knows first hand that "Daddy's got smelly feet!!"

I love how she looks so proud of what she's pulled off the shelf!
