Weekend fun, part I

Kate here. We're recovering after a fun, but exhausting, weekend in Bend, Oregon with our friends Amy and Jason. Brian and I flew into Portland on Friday night for a week-long stay with friends. Saturday morning greeted us with smells of a home-cooked breakfast from Chef Jason. Amy and I caught up with the gossip magazines while we waited. Brian got to eat from the "you are special" plate in honor of his first trip to Oregon.

After breakfast we took a leisurely stroll around the neighborhood...and of course we had time to do a little geocaching. Here is Amy finding her first cache!

We packed the car and took off for Bend, which is a three hour drive from Portland. Along the way we stopped to celebrate National Corn Dog day.

It was a beautiful drive over to Bend. We went through several different landscapes...first the pass over Mt. Hood, then into what looked like a burned out forest with great distant views of Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Washington, and finally into the high desert. The clouds were covering Mt. Bachelor when we got to Bend, but it was still beautiful.

We stayed with the parents of a friend of Jason and Amy's in what can only be described as a mansion. Brian and I basically had our own apartment in the house! The house also had a movie theater! Here is the view of the golf course and Mt. Bachelor covered by clouds from our lodging...

On Sunday morning we set out for our first day of skiing. It was a cold and windy day, but we managed to have fun despite the weather. Here are Amy and Jason in their matching goggles.

And here I am on one of my first attempts down the bunny slope. I definitely don't look like a natural!
We met up with my aunt Maxine, who lives in Bend. Maxine and Brian coached me through the first day and I improved a lot by the end. Here we are on one of the final runs of the day.
The second day of skiing was even better, but I'll have to come back to it later. We're on our way over to Heidi and Colin's house now. Yay!

It looks like a pretty blustery day when you were out on the slopes. You can keep that weather there!

It was one FABULOUS time, let me say it again....FAB. I wish we were still in Bend right now! I could use another fun day and another Goodies Milkshake. :)
