This is year two of our adventures in community gardening. So far, so good! We had a big planting party and one other smaller weeding party. A couple families from our group went out and weeded while we were on vacation, too. Some of our crops were a dud...no good lettuce, radishes, spinach, or snap peas. Not sure if it was the super hot weather, wind, lack of rain, or something else all together. We are, however, getting a ton of zucchini and summer squash. This is especially nice because last year our plants were attacked by bugs and I think we maybe got two zucchinis the entire summer. So now we're back to our problem from year 1: what to do with baby sized zucchini (and by "baby sized", I mean zucchini the size of a human baby!)?
We've had roasted zucchini, sauteed zucchini, zucchini bread, cheesy zucchini rice, veggie pizza, and a zucchini fry. We took a big basket of zucchini to church last weekend to give away, got rid of a bunch at small group on Wednesday, and took another big bag to the local food shelf this week. Wowzer!
Up next seems to be beans, cucumbers, and tomatoes. We also have some nice looking peppers on their way.

Oh no! You're gonna be tired of zucchini by the time EcoFri rolls around!
