Migration to the Lake

There are a lot of birds that are making their way back to Lake Emily. I have to say I'm more excited than I thought I would be about all the new "fowl" activity.
Here is a picture of the ice on the lake 6 days ago with our first visitor.
Six days later a lot more ice is melted and there are Great Blue Herons and ducks on the lake. Not to mention this big loon pictured below.
I went out for a short paddle and it turned into an hour. I did play "ice breaker" a bit with the ice on the main part of the lake. The broken pieces sounded SO neat tinkling against each other. I went around the edge of the lake between the shore and ice clock-wise until I came to some ice heaves that were too much to paddle through. I came back to "our" bay and then went counter clock-wise around the lake until I got to the boat landing. That was about enough for today. It was about 2/3 of a mile back to our bay from the landing. Once back to our bay I scoped out a spot where we may put a dock sometime in the future.
