Sorry the update has taken so long. We've been going nonstop since we got home last Wednesday. So, just to catch you up with the trip, we had a good time...
Melissa and Kate exploring Thurston Lava Tube

Tree hugger. Brian loved the big hapu'u ferns

Our hike through the Kilauea Iki Crater ended up with Brian getting swallowed up in a crack.

Brian found some bananas...

and sugar cane.

Akaka Falls...

Playing with lava

We took a few hikes. Here we are at Lava Tree State Park. These are tree molds made when a lava flow covered a grove of trees.

Then we hiked a mile over a very rough lava field to this small pond which is heated by the volcano so it was like being in a warm bath.

My sister Melissa graduated from high school. Here we are after the ceremony.

This is Waipio Valley, a very secluded but beautiful area on the island.

Brian enjoyed some boogie boarding at Hapuna Beach. Shaka!

One of many sea turtles Brian saw...

The dolphins at one of the hotels...

Me and Melissa at sunset in Kona...

We made time for a little geocaching (of couse!)

Snorkeling.

We stayed a night at the hotel where my stepmother works. Here is a view from the lobby.

Brian enjoying his two new favorite treats...passion orange juice and spam musubi. Yum!

Catching some quality time in the beach-side hammock.

Aloha!

Fun to travel with you by photos
Looks like a wonderful trip! No trip is EVER complete without geocaching :)
I'm proud to say that, thanks to you, I recognize many of your vacation sites! My Brian loves the spam masubi too, but I just never warmed up to it....;)~Danielle
Love the sea turtle!
Beautiful pictures of a beautiful place.
It looks like the only part of the island you didn't make it to was the astronomy center on the mountain, Coconut Island in Hilo and Lapahoehoe Point.
But considering you were there only 5 days, you covered a lot of territory! Good job.
