Fourth Festivities

Brian had to work today, but I took advantage of all the Fourth of July festivities in St. Peter. This morning I ran in an 8K fun run. It was a tough run for me because I haven't run more than four miles in the past few weeks. I did finish, though, and with 10-minute miles too! After a shower and a snack I packed up the lawn chair, camera, and rain jacket and walked down to the parade route. I love parades and the St. Peter Fourth of July parade is a big one (relatively speaking, of course!). It was pouring rain, but that didn't stop the crowds. The street was lined rows deep on both sides. I managed to get a curb-side seat just in time to see the first police car go by. A couple of cute kids settled in next to me. They must have picked up a pound of candy and the little one kept looking at her mom and saying, "mommy, I LOVE parades!"

Here are a few highlights...

The Nicollet Historical Society
Our local drum and bugle corps, the Govenaires... (keep in mind that the sound on our computer doesn't work so I have no idea what these sound like...sorry if they're awful)

Here's one for Brian...

And one for Laur and Jill...
Super cute square dancers. The lady in the red hat is my fave!

After the parade I walked down to Minnesota Square Park to check out the food vendors, artists, and music. I had a yummy chocolate milkshake but decided I wasn't in the mood for the food (more accurately, I wasn't in the mood to wait in the long lines for the food). I walked over to the grocery store and got a frozen pizza instead. Now I'm settled in on the couch waiting for my pizza to bake. Brian just called and said things are pretty slow at Menards (shocking!). I hope he gets off early :) Tonight we're meeting up with some friends to watch fireworks.

Your day looks so fun, I wish I was there! (for everything except the run, that is). I saw the govenaires at Thunder of Drums one year. Have you ever been to that? I love square dancers--I'm going to make Jon do that when we are old :)

The sound is great on the video clips!
That's a cool old well drilling truck but I think we need MORE POWER!!

The sound was great! Looks like a better parade than PI Cheese Fest.
